The Black Horse used to have its own cricket club. Below is a captain and former landlord of the pub (David Wright) taken in 1977 and a match report from 1986.
Thanks to Nick Pearson for this update: The blackhorse cricket team played from 1977 to 2003. The team was a travelling side as we had no ground but played every sunday for 25 seasons against
local sides. The captain and driving force for much of the clubs history was a guy called Colin Beattie, who lives or lived at Standon. Most of the team played for others sides on Saturdays and the Horse on Sunday. I played for
Westmill and then Black Horse on Sunday for the last 5 years of its existence and indeed played in our last ever game at the end of 2003. I think we folded because Colin got fed up trying to get players but it was a sad day for
all as the horse was the friendliest team I have ever played for.
